iSmash! Do you smash?

Touch the screen and wait for the photo selection screen to appear. Choose the five pictures you want to smash (you'll hear a "pop" as you select each one). You'll then see the first image. The next touch will "break" the picture! You'll hear the sound of glass breaking and will see real broken glass that changes as you tilt your device. The display then randomly switches between your five "broken" pictures for you to enjoy.

If you like this program, please touch the screen during the countdown and check out the book "Why Sh*t Happens" by Peter J Bentley.

Instructions:

Touch the screen once. You'll hear a raspberry and see a countdown. If you touch the screen during the countdown you can check out the book. Otherwise, after 3 seconds you will be able to choose five of your photos to smash (you'll hear a "pop" as you select each one). You'll then see the first image. The next touch will "break" the picture! You'll hear the sound of glass breaking and will see real broken glass that changes as you tilt your device. The display then randomly switches between your five "broken" pictures for you to enjoy. To quit, just press the "Home" button as normal.

For best results, turn off Auto-Brightness. You may need to turn screen brightness to maximum if you are in bright sunshine. The application assumes that the light source comes from above, so for the best optical illusion, use indoors with a single overhead light and keep the device in a normal upright position while tilting it. Try experimenting with different pictures to see which ones look best when smashed!

Please note that because of memory constraints, the program cannot load five images taken by the iphone camera. If you try you'll hear a fart noise and the program will automatically quit. The application is designed to load iphone-sized images from your photo library.

Have fun with iSmash - and remember, sometimes a simulation is better than reality - you really don't want to do this for real!

For more fun, download this image pack, add to a new album in iPhoto, and sync to your iphone. If you want to add a screenshot from any other application including your own springboard to your library, hold down "Home" and "power" at the same time. If you have created your own image pack that works well with iSmash and want to share it with others, email me!

Support:

iSmash is a simulation of a smashed image on your iPod or iPhone - your device is completely unharmed by running the application. Just press the "Home button" to quit as normal.

This program has been tested on iPhone 3G running 2.2 software, and iPod Touch 1G running 2.2 software. If you are having problems or want to share your views with the author, you can discuss or ask questions at Peter’s Book Blog (search for ‘ismash’): http://apps.peterjbentley.com/Blog/
